Spin Cycle: Pure Energy

Fascinating. Pure energy. Pure thought. Totally incorporeal. Not life as we know it at all.

Mr. Spock, Errand of Mercy, Stardate 3198.4

The Super-Cool Sprite’s Keeper’s Spin Cycle over the last two weeks (she was at Disney World, so we got an extra week) is to reveal the birth of our blogs.  The assignment is to reveal ‘your blog’s life story, autobiography, Wikipedia entry if you’re popular…’

Well, there’s no ‘Goodfatherblog.com’ wikipedia entry.  That’s easy.

My blog started August 21, 2008. I have less than 100 posts.

I write about my family and my life.

Done!  Except… that doesn’t really explain WHY I blog, or what my blog is to me.  The more I thought about how I feel about my blog, the more I realized that while my blog started out as an experiment, it quickly evolved into an outlet of expression for me.  A creative outlet.  A way to connect with people that share my views and interests.  I’m happiest when I’m creating something new.  At work, I’m most effective when I’m leading a new innovative project.  In college, I loved composing music.  I view my blog now as just a natural expression of that same energy, taking a different form, escaping as it will.

After I started my blog and made my first few posts, it immediately took on a life of its own.  It’s like it asks me if I’m being honest.  Truthful.  If what I’m hacking out is worthy of writing down.

Information Society expressed it well:

I wanna know
what you’re thinking
there are some things you can’t hide …
I wanna know
what you’re feeling
tell me what’s on your mind.

Pure energy.

Great start, I started about a week after you! Isn’t it funny how a lot of the people in our bloggy circle “came up” together in the blogosphere? Glad to have you around…

They do kind of keep you honest, don’t they? Sometimes I have to hold back the honesty, or I’d scare the four readers that I have away.

Top O’ The Mornin’ to Ya’, Goodfather! What a great way to start the day! I hadn’t heard that songs in years. Wow, a blast from the past. And check out those production values! Good, times, man, good times…Where’s my skinny ties!?

The short answer to ‘Why?’ is ‘Because if I didn’t, my head would have probably exploded!’ Pure energy? I was/am burning up with it!

As soon as I read your post title, I started singing that Information Society song in my head, which is tough at this point in the day because I’m already at extreme exhaustion and/or pain levels! It was worth it, though.

I’ve been blogging since February and have a fraction of your readership.

I wish I were a guy.

I blog because I have no social life. :)

Been lurking for awhile and have never commented before but thought I would today since you are talking about the birth of your blog. You have a great blog here and I think a big part of why it’s so great is that you keep it real. I enjoy your humor and how much you love being a dad.

My blog is court-mandated. Apparently they felt I was a heartless bastard for doing what I did to all those little kitty cats. So now I have to blog to ‘express myself’ ;)

Great post! You compose music? How did I not know that? I need to pay closer attention! That is sooooo cool. We got The Boy a guitar for Christmas…hopefully he’ll be musical too!

did you know that my blog is less than two weeks older than yours?? (I’ve been blogging way longer.. but the one you read was started in early August 08). Of course, you’re way more popular than I am, but I forgive you. ;)

Maybe some day I’ll catch up.. lol

What a great blog autobiography! It is much better than mine, which is simply that I wanted fans. Just kidding, just kidding. It’s that I wanted an outlet for foul words normally directed toward my husband and kids.

Great post Goodfather. I’m so glad you blog, because now I know what’s going on in your brain. (Mwa ha ha!) But really, it’s cool to know what you’re thinking. As for my blog, it’s as nonexistant as I was when that Pure Energy song came out. (Hee hee):p

So we get to give birth to ourselves? And name ourselves. How cool is that! What would you put on top of a blog anniversary cake? I’m thinking keyboard keys–maybe the key you use the most. (For me that would probably be the backspace key.)

It’s amazing how much the tone of my blog has changed since I started in August 2007. I love it. It allows me to be me and (hopefully) put a smile on someone’s face.

I started mine around the same time and I think I have about 3 readers. Obviously, I’m doing something wrong. But the creativity part is what links us all together, I think! I wrote for a living, for a while, and when it gets in your blood, you’re always a writer!
