My friend Captain Dumbass at Us and Them had an observation a couple of weeks ago during a telephone conversation that kept cutting in and out: there’s a lot of bling in the blogosphere in the form of awards, but not much of it is man-friendly. I wasn’t sure what he meant, so I slapped off an email to him full of questions: Is pink not a ‘guy’ color? Are flowers not ‘manly’? Are ‘cute’ and ‘cuddly’ not part of the mancabulary? Is it wrong that I saw Twilight? Should I not like it that people call me GF, and I think ‘girl friend’ in my head?
I bit my nails for two days and ate an entire carton of chocolate-chocolate chip ice cream waiting for his response, which arrived one evening between ‘Dancing With the Stars’ and ‘ Access Hollywood’.
‘Girlfriend - real men don’t make up words.’
And suddenly, everything clicked into place. The manliness I’d lost being surrounded by two girls and my beautiful wife every day came surging back. I deleted all the ‘America’s Next Top Model’ episodes from my DVR, and queued up UFC and every televised NFL game of the season. I pulled a dirty shirt out of the hamper and wore it for three days straight. I skipped shaving for a week and splotchy stubble appeared on random parts of my face.
I then whipped out my Photoshop and created the following award:
Measures Up Award

This Blog Measures Up Award
This award is for any blog that truly ‘measures up’.
Rules
1. Say one nice thing to a man in your life.
2. List at least six ways that you measure success in your life (or for your blog).

Sorry I hadn’t responded sooner! Just got back inside from cutting down some trees behind the house. Of course, that was after I cleaned the wild boar I shot and wiped down my monster truck that I was using to haul some anchor chains down to the ship repair yard across the street from my forge and foundry! I had two sons, and a husband (well, some of the time) living in my house in the past twenty years, and so I’ve always been the only female in the household except for the female cat we had for awhile, so I feel your pain. When I suggest turning the football game to watch the Lifetime movie that’s coming on, I’m pretty much outvoted 100% of the time. I get this blank stare, like I’ve lost my everlovin’ freakin’ mind, and then I’m banished to the bedroom to watch it on the 20″ TV. They continue to watch the game in high def on the 46″ flat panel. *sniff* Gee, I can’t imagine why…. LOL

A Man Award! Oh this is over the top cool. I’m never quite sure why measuring tapes and mentions of men make me giggle, but they do. OMG! I started dating a woman 2 years ago with a now 13y/o daughter. My 17 y/o niece has started college in the same city as I am thousands of miles from the rest of our family.
