Traveling to Paris with kids doesn’t need to be daunting. We’ve traveled to Paris with our daughter four times at different ages from 9 months to 2 years.

Paris is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world which means there are a lot of activities for children of all ages. There are many kid-friendly museums, theaters, restaurants, and other things to do with kids. But it’s not all about things like the Eiffel Tower or Notre Dame Cathedral; there are some lesser-known things that kids will love too.

The best way to access all the sites for the whole family is with the City Pass which includes several stops on this list. There are also plenty of tours that suit the whole family. If you are more interested in museums, the Paris Museum Pass is the best option.

1. Luxembourg Gardens (Jardin du Luxembourg)

The Luxembourg Gardens (Jardin du Luxembourg) is a large green space that is perfect for kids to run and play in, it covers 56.8 acres in the city of Paris! Kids of all ages will enjoy the tennis courts, lawns, flowerbeds, statues of mythical gods, French royalty, and tree-lined promenades. There are also model sailboats that are found on the octagonal Grand Bassin at the gardens.

The gardens open at 7:30 am and are free to access. Some kid-friendly activities at the Luxembourg Gardens include the children’s playground and puppet theater which opens at 2pm Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

There is a separate children’s area with pay-per-play activities. These activities include pony rides and playing on swings. There is a guided tour by a park garden that is available on the 1st Wednesday of the month. Or you can book a private, kid-friendly tour to fit your schedule.

Babies and toddlers enjoy the gardens because of the open green space and model sailboats. Older children and teenagers will enjoy the activities and people-watching. There are some pretty fabulous restaurants (notably Tomara, Pavillon de la Fontaine Paris, Buvette des Marionnettes) close to the gardens where you can treat your kids to some delicious French cuisine.

The nearest bus stop is the Luxembourg RER, and the nearest Paris metro stops are at Notre-Dame des Champs (line 12) or the Odeon (lines 4 & 10).

2. Grévin Museum

The Grévin Museum is a wax museum that was established by Arthur Meyer in 1882 and situated on the Seine’s right bank in the 9th arrondissement of the Grands Boulevards, making it an easy, entertaining stop for children on a Paris tour during your family trip. It is included in the CityPass.

Kids will enjoy wandering one of the first wax museums built in Europe. It has a baroque design that comes with a hall of mirrors (without having to travel to Versailles) which was made in 1900 and initially housed at the Paris Palace of Mirrors.

There are over 450 wax exhibits for children to admire, organized in a way that tells a story of what their real-life counterparts were doing and who they were back in their respective heydeys. From a wax Napoleon to Charlemagne to a cell phone, there are wax portrayals of many French icons.

If your kids enjoy science and technology, they will enjoy the exhibits of the growth of the French technical evolution starting from the 19th century through the 20th century up to today. It is fun to see how people connected throughout history!

New waxworks are added all the time, giving this fantastic museum a great re-visit value. It’s a great place for kids to learn history and even take photos with some of history’s greatest French heroes and villains from history.

3. Sacré-Cœur

The Sacré-Cœur Basilica is a wonderful place to bring children to see all of Paris. Located on the highest hill in Paris, Sacre-Coeur overlooks the entire city with beautiful views. It is the second-highest point in Paris after the Eiffel Tower.

Kids will enjoy the journey up to Sacré-Cœur, you get to take a short, 1-minute ride up a vernacular (use your Metro ticket) and then climb a short amount of steps to get to the top. If you are looking for a workout you can also take the steps all the way up, but be ready to sweat!

There is a family-friendly train that loops around Sacré-Cœur and Montmartre, making the visit easy and fun for everyone.

This is a great place to visit with kids to see their jaws drop at the sight of this gleaming white monster. The Sacré-Cœur church is free to visit though you won’t be allowed to enter the chapels.

To get to Sacre-Coeur, you take the Paris metro including the line 2 metro, alight at Anvers, and then walk the rest of the way, you could also take the vernacular or a bus if you don’t feel like walking (buses 30,31,80, and 85).

4. Arc de Triomphe

Another fun landmark to visit in Paris with kids is the Arc de Triomphe. Kids of all ages will enjoy going on the rooftop and watching the cars and motorcycles circle around them. It is especially fun at sunset. It is included in the Paris Museum Pass.

The Arc de Triomphe also has an interesting history. Families can learn how it was built as a monument for honoring the memory of the lives lost during the Napoleonic wars and the French Revolution. It later became the site for the French Tomb of the Unknown Soldier – the body of a French soldier, killed during World War I, honoring those claimed by war who were never seen nor heard from again, as well as those who could not be identified.

The Arc de Triomphe is an easy stop on your Paris family vacation. It is at the end of the famous Avenue des Champs-Élysées shopping street complete with a Disney store and other, more local Parisian shops.

Activities at the Arc de Triomphe are very child-friendly. There is an elevator that parents with small kids can use to get to the Attic Room. You can park your stroller on the ground floor as well.

If you want to tour this famous landmark up close, there is a fee of 13 euros for admission but for kids under 18 years and students with a visa, it is free. You can also purchase tickets ahead of time to access the rooftop or use the Paris Museum Pass.

5. Paris Zoological Park (Vincennes Zoo)

The Paris Zoological Park, or Vincennes Zoo, is one of the most popular things to do in Paris with kids. It has animals from 5 biozones; Patagonia, Europe, Amazon-Guyana, Madagascar, and Sahel-Sudan. A real escape from traditional Paris!

The zoo has over 2,000 animals from 180 species residing there, including jaguars, penguins, manatees, and zebras. The park is one highlight of the city and should be on your itinerary when you are touring the city.

The Paris Zoological Park is one of the most child-friendly places in Paris. There are activities for kids of all ages. Toddlers and kids ages 5 years and under can enjoy the Animo-Mimes and the hair or scales game.

Children aged 6 –12 years can participate in one of 4 teams solving Park Puzzles, and the Crime Scene at the Zoo, using clues to find the identity of a naughty animal that has eaten park supplies! Older children get to learn all about biodiversity in the game The A-Z of Biodiversity – it’s surprisingly engaging.

When you or your kids get hungry, there are picnic areas, 2 on-site restaurants, and fast food stalls, when the day is done head over to the souvenir shop for some toys.

For visitors living with disabilities, the park is designed to provide ease of access throughout. There are also rental wheelchairs for those who might need them on-site.

6. Wood of Vincennes

The Wood of Vincennes is just outside the zoo and is the 2nd largest in Paris after the Bois de Boulogne. The park is a wonderful place to visit with children and for every nature-loving family. Here you and your family can walk on the trails, bike (they have bike rentals), or even boat on the lakes.

There are many interesting parts of the Wood of Vincennes that children will enjoy. Its most notable monument is the Chateau de Vincennes, a towering example of medieval military architecture which is open daily.

The Wood of Vincennes offers a lot of fun activities for kids on your Paris vacation such as pony rides, boat rentals, and cycling. You can tour Lake Daumesnil which has 2 islands (Bercy and Reuilly) which are connected by a bridge.

To get to the wood, you can easily find the entrance to the park which is marked by the unmissable Golden Gate. The nearest metro station is called the Golden Gate and is not far from the entrance.

7. Jardin des Plantes

The Jardin des Plantes was created in the 17th century as a medicinal garden for royalty. Today, it is home to the oldest zoo in Paris, the Natural History Museum, the Grande Galerie de l’Évolution, and the Paris Botanical School making it a wonderful place for families.

The Jardin des Plantes is one of the lesser-known Paris attractions, despite the fact that it is right off the Seine. It is easy to get to and younger kids will enjoy running around such a large green space and sneaking peaks of the zoo (keep reading for more details on the zoo!).

The garden’s grounds are perfect for jogging, relaxing, and exploring with your kids. And it is free to access so make sure it’s part of your itinerary when you visit Paris!

Kids of all ages enjoy the Alpine Garden which has over 3000 species of plants from all over the world. The nearby rose garden has hundreds of rose trees and bushes. There is also an Australian greenhouse and a Mexican greenhouse that are all parts of the Natural History Museum (keep reading for more on that).

Go and find the monument that was erected to honor the director of Gobelins dye factory, Michel Eugene Chervel, the scientist whose work on the color spectrum led to the rise of impressionist art, and he also invented margarine!

Admission into Jardin des Plantes will cost you a fee of 6 euros for adults and 4 euros for others. You can get to Jardin des Plantes via subway (line 7, 10 min), taxi (3 min), bus (line 67, 10 min), or on foot (25 min) from the city center.

8. Natural History Museum

While in the Jardin des Plantes you can enjoy dozens of activities with the family. The first stop is the Natural History Museum which is a great place to go in Paris with kids.

There are so many different areas to visit in the Natural History Museum it is hard to put them all in one section. Take a short walk through the Jardin to the Grande Galerie de l’Évolution to see giant elephants and giraffes.

Younger children will enjoy the children’s gallery which is interactive and tailored for little ones. Older kids will enjoy the dinosaur exhibit.

The museum grounds are separated in the garden, so be prepared to walk between buildings. You can make an entire day out of hopping between everything there is to see here.

9. Jardin d’Acclimatation

The Jardin d’Acclimatation is a giant amusement park located at Bois de Boulogne in Paris near the Louis Vuitton Foundation. Fun fact, the amusement park was opened by Empress Eugenie and Napoleon III in 1860.

Here’s a great place for kids to get all their energy out on the family vacation. Aside from the many carnival rides, the park is home to lush greenery and offers perfect spots for picnics, there are also relaxing lounge areas and a couple of restaurants where you can take a break.

The Park has a lot of activities that you and your kids can participate in such as the flying chairs ride, a small animal petting zoo, play mini-golf, and the nearby children’s museum where they can play antique games.

You will need a ticket for every attraction and ride you want to visit. The best way to experience the park is with the day pass at €35 per person. With the day pass you and the kids can enjoy unlimited rides.

The Park is easily accessible from the city center via the Les Sablons metro station (line 1). From the station, you only have to walk a short distance to get to the park.

There’s a narrow-gauge train that is used for transporting guests into the park from the entrance, perfect for getting young kids in the mood. All aboard. Purchase your tickets in advance to ensure you can maximize your experiences at this amazing amusement park.

10. Place du Trocadero

The enormous Place du Trocadero was a garden made for the World’s Fair hosted in Paris in 1937. Today, it is a fun gathering place with great views of the Eiffel Tower, perfect for a family vacation photo.

Kids will enjoy the views while watching 20 water cannons that offer a spectacular water display to visitors. This display is especially cool at night and during summer evenings. Other attractions at the Place du Trocadero include the sculptures such as L’homme and La Femme and the gilded bronze animals.

Entrance at the park is free and you can visit at any time of the day all year round. You can easily get there by use of the metro (lines 6 & 9), and if you are at Eiffel Tower, you can get the ferry and cross the river.

11. Paris Aquarium

Right next to Trocadero is the Aquarium de Paris, otherwise known as the Paris Aquarium where the whole family can enjoy watching the 15,000 water creatures from over 500 species swim. The Aquarium is included in the CityPass, or you can get individual tickets in advance at this link to skip the line.

The Paris Aquarium has more than fish. There are dancing pirates, National Geographic films, workshops, and ever-changing The lessons learned here will help your kids better understand sea life and the part they can play in conserving the oceans.

12. Champ de Mars

The Champ de Mars park used to be a fruit and vegetable farm before a military school was erected nearby. Today, it is a wonderful park to visit in Paris with kids of all ages.

In the summer, the Champ de Mars holds live music performances, many of which are free and open to the public. Nearly every weekend you can stop by for a party or cultural event. There is also a puppet theater young kids will love, a basketball court, 4 different playgrounds dotted around the park, and an antique hand-cranked carousel.

The Champ de Mars is a great place for kids to hang out and have fun and a great place to take a breath after a hard day of exploring Paris. It is only a 4-minute walk away from the Eiffel Tower. And it is easy to take your stroller or pram out for a walk and enjoy views of the Eiffel Tower.

This park is a great place for nap time as well. Babies can sleep in the stroller while parents enjoy a glass of wine while taking in the view of the Eiffel Tower or greenery.

13. Metiers Art Museum

The building where the Métiers Art Museum is housed was once a monastery. This museum is a great destination to enjoy with children because it holds art and numerous intricate scientific instruments. It is included in the Paris Museum Pass.

This Art Museum isn’t just an art gallery as the name might suggest, but home to tons of exhibits based on science and technology. It’s one of the oldest art museums in all of Europe, it opened in 1802, as well as containing over 80,000 objects (2,500 of which are on display) and 15,000 drawings.

The museum’s galleries are divided into seven major schools: Scientific Instruments, Materials, Energy, Mechanics, Construction, Communication, and Transportation. It is a great choice for a family that has an interest in the history of engineering, science, invention, and technological development.

It is set away from all that traffic in the more touristy bits of Paris making it a great place to visit with your kids, with less stress and crowds involved.

Start your trip at the Arts and Métiers Metro Station, located underground. It’s decorated with tubes of copper and huge gears which sets the mood for the rest of the tour. Among many technological marvels is the first plane to fly across the English Channel, the Blériot XI. You can also get a look at the Statue of Liberty’s original designs.

Then there’s the marvelous Foucault Pendulum, which was formerly attached to St-Martin de Champs’ priory church, a huge device from the 19th Century that demonstrated Earth’s rotation.

14. Louvre Museum

Arguably the most famous museum in the world, the Louvre is a great place to go when visiting Paris with kids. The Louvre Museum is included in the Paris Museum Pass. There is also a wonderful private tour available for families with children that our own kids loved! (Here is another option as well)

Kids and adults will love viewing the giant, beautiful, unmistakable glass pyramid. From here you can enter the Louvre museum to enjoy all the treasures inside.

There is a lot to see at the Louvre museum (over 35,000 pieces of art) which may seem daunting to do with kids, but if you plan which exhibits to see in advance you can get the most out of your time without stress. When you arrive stop by the guest services desk for a kid’s program so that they can have their own map.

Start in an area of the Louvre museum that many people miss, the apartments of Napoleon. These majestic apartments have remained nearly untouched and were once used as the living quarters of Napoleon and even Hitler during WW2. Kids ages 0 to 99 will enjoy walking through and seeing how Napoleon lived.

Then check off some of the most famous exhibits such as the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci, Les Noces de Cana by Paolo Veronese, and the Venus de Milo statue among many, many more.

The Louvre museum is a great day out for kids and families looking to see some of the most famous artworks ever created, book your tickets in advance with timed entry as it can get very busy.

15. The Pavillons of Bercy – Museum of Fairground Arts

Ever wanted to ride an antique carousel? This is your chance. The Pavillons of Bercy – Museum of Fairgrounds Art is a unique museum that kids will love. This is a private museum and while it is open all year round, you need to book in advance for a visit. Trust me, it’s worth every penny.

This museum is like visiting a vintage Grimm’s fairytale theme park. There are merry-go-rounds, bridges used in plays, Cinderella carriages, and more. Younger children will love riding on the vintage carousel. Older kids will have fun seeing all the vintage machinery up close and sitting in the different retired rides.

The museum is divided into 4 main sections: the Theatre of Marvels (Theatre du Merveilleux), the Vegetal outdoor area (Theater de Verdure), Venetian Rooms (Salons Venitiens), and of course, the Museum of Fairground Arts (Musee des Arts Forains).

There are family-friendly (ages 5 and up) guides who provide captivating tours that will take you back in time. The family can also watch a show using an old automaton before riding the vintage carousel. Most tours are in French but English speakers get an English leaflet explaining the exhibits. If you book a visit during the summer, English language tours are offered.

Entrance charges for individuals are adults (€19), children under the age of 12 years (€13), and kids under 4 years of age get in free!

The museum is only a short 4-min walk from the Cour Saint-Emilion station and a 9-min walk if you are coming from the Dugommier Metro station.

16. Palais de la Découverte

The Palais de la Découverte is the oldest hands-on museum of science with a ton of fun exhibits to see when visiting Paris with kids. It is located across the Seine from Invalides, directly between the Louvre Museum and the Eiffel Tower.

There are several activities and exhibits that you and your family will definitely enjoy at the Palais de la Découverte such as the circular Pi room featuring all the 707 digits of π. Other sections include fascinating exhibits on geology, physics, biology, and astronomy. You can even enjoy the night sky by visiting the Zeis Planetarium next to the Seine riverbanks.

The museum is open every day of the week except on Mondays and there’s an entrance fee. You can easily get to the museum from the Franklin D. Roosevelt station, only a 4-min walk away. If you are coming from Champ-Elysees Clemenceau metro station it will only take you 3 minutes to walk there.

17. Parc Floral de Paris

If you are willing to travel a bit more East, there is a wonderful flower garden called the Parc Floral de Paris. This very-local park is an excellent option when visiting Paris with kids because there are fewer crowds and a lot of open space to run and explore.

This stunning botanical garden and the public park cover over 69 acres, featuring numerous ponds with lotuses and water lilies, a Japanese bonsai pavilion, an azalea garden, and a museum.

Your kids will enjoy the educational games offered at the museum, as well as several playgrounds available for them to burn some energy. There are jungle gyms, slides, and sandboxes for the whole family to enjoy.

For older kids there are activities such as table tennis, mini-golf, and ropes courses, you’ll have to pay extra for these. Most of the outdoor activities are available during the warmer months. Summer really is the best time to visit, as there are also free open-air concerts that are held here during the summer.

The park opens at 9:30 am every day of the week and closing hours depend on the season. The park has been updated with disabled people in mind, who get priority admission and can find wheelchairs to rent if necessary.

Entry to the park costs €2.50 at full price, and €1.50 for the reduced prices. The city of Paris also offers free guided tours on request. For your visiting tickets, you can easily grab them online.

18. Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris

The world-famous Notre Dame de Paris (Our Lady of Paris) is one of the most famous churches in the world and a must-do on your trip to Paris with kids. Entrance to Notre Dame is free, while additional exhibits, like the crypt, are extra but included on the CityPass and the Paris Museum Pass.

It is one of the best places to tour and enjoy a special day in Paris, mainly distinguished for its size, architecture, and antiquity. Not surprisingly, it brings the most visitors of any attraction in France with an estimated 12 million visitors annually.

Kids will love seeing the Gothic architecture, gargoyles, tall ceilings, and incredible stained glass windows. There are statutes, replicas, history lessons, and more just from walking around its halls. It is the eternal resting place of many significant French figures, such as presidents, as well as has seen coronations, desecrations, liberations, and its fair share of damage over the years, including as recently as 2019.

It is free to enter the church, but the lines can be very long so it is best to go early. There are a number of great tours to do here too. There is a wonderful outdoor walking tour of Notre Dame that includes entry to the crypt.

To get some great panoramic views of the city, you can climb the towers. You can discover the hidden Notre-Dame treasury where valuable relics and holy objects important to French Catholics are stored. You’ll have to pay a small access fee to see the treasury. The crypt and treasure are included on the CityPass and the Paris Museum Pass.

The church opens its doors at 9:30 am and closes them at 6:00 pm from Monday through Saturday. On Sundays, it’s open from 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm.

19. Ménagerie, le zoo du Jardin des Plantes

Nestled in the Jardin des Plantes you can find a cozy Botanical Garden Zoo. It is a great thing to do in Paris with kids because it has been featured in books and is home to a lot of small animals.

Fun fact, the first animal at the zoo had been a lion who escaped. There is a book that is rumored to be modeled after this escape, A Lion in Paris. It is one of my personal favorites!

It’s a great place for families to visit as you get to enjoy viewing some endangered species such as red pandas, Arabian oryx, snow leopards, white-naped cranes, orangutans, and Aldabra giant tortoises among several others.

You can learn all about the breeding programs that the Ménagerie conducts to try and bolster populations of endangered species. The idea is to reintroduce the animals back into their natural habitats once they are fully grown and strong enough to survive.

Admission to the Ménagerie, Le Zoo du Jardin des Plantes costs 6 Euros for adults and 4 Euros for children under the age of three. It will take you about 7 minutes to get there from Bd Saint-Germain station.

20. La Villette

North of the Gare de l’Est train station you can find La Villette which is the 3rd largest park in Paris. It is a beautiful spot to visit Paris with kids, the open green space and waterways make for a wonderful afternoon. Bring your own picnic and you can enjoy hours here.

In the park, there are activity areas and playgrounds for kids of all ages as well as theaters and cultural spaces. Some notable sites include the Uspenski Cathedral, the Argonaute Submarine (yes, a real submarine!), the Grande Halle (which includes a restaurant), and the Sciences and Industry Museum.

The La Villette Passenger Gardens are a set of educational and environmental gardens that are used to teach ecological development and raise environmental awareness. It features an extensive vegetable garden as well as various rare and ancient trees. The Passengers’ Gardens open its doors to all, including those with physical disabilities on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.

To get to the park, take the metro at either the Porte de Pantin metro station (line 5) or the Corentin Cariou (line 7). It is open from 6:00 am to 1:00 am and is accessible by bus, metro, bicycle, boat, and foot.

21. Eiffel Tower

No list of experiences in Paris with kids would be complete without the Eiffel Tower and the Place de la Concorde, you know, the first thing that pops into your mind when you think of France. There are also a lot of great hotels with views of the Eiffel Tower if you want a peek every morning!

The Eiffel Tower was built in 1887 at Champ de Mars as an entrance point to the 1889 World Fair. At 324 meters, it’s the tallest structure in Paris and the second tallest structure in France. The tower is made of iron and it’s the tallest tourist attraction in Paris.

The Eiffel Tower has a lot for kids to do. There are 3 floors, with restaurants on the first and second floors, and an observation deck on the third – that said you’ll get plenty of great views from the first and second floors if you stop for a bite. Grab your tickets in advance to skip the line and make it to the top for some amazing views.

Kids will enjoy ascending to the top for the views and the all-glass elevators. But if heights aren’t your thing, there is plenty to do at the Eiffel Tower without going up. There is a tour for kids where they get to learn all sorts of bizarre facts about the Eiffel Tower, anecdotes, and surprising exploits. They also get to work on creating their own 3D models of the tower, those who love drawing can do that if they so wish.

The wonderful Champ de Mars park has expansive green space to sit and enjoy a picnic with direct views of the Eiffel Tower. There are gardens and crepe stands throughout the garden as well as souvenir shops.

At night, the Eiffel Tower lights up and sparkles. Kids will love watching the light display from the gardens or a nearby restaurant. You can also watch the light display from inside the Eiffel Tower, but it is not as fun. Personally, I enjoy watching it from Ponte Alexander. From here you can get an amazing view without any obstructions.

This is a must-attraction to visit when you travel to Paris. Period. Alone or with family or friends, if this is your first time in Paris, make sure to bring your camera.

The charges for accessing the Eiffel Tower vary based on age and the floor of the tower you want to visit and how you want to access it (stairs or lift).

22. Disneyland Paris

Disneyland Paris is a theme park in Marne-la-Vallee, about 45 minutes by train from central Paris, France. It is one of the most visited tourist destinations in all of Europe.

Currently, there are twelve different themes represented in five areas: Adventureland, Discoveryland, Fantasyland, Frontierland, and Main Street USA. Disneyland is a great option for visiting Paris with kids because it is a taste of home – there are familiar characters, fun rides, and a lot of families around.
