Another important attraction is the city wall of Dubrovnik, which surrounds the entire city center with a length of about 2 kilometers. During a walk over the wall, you can also enjoy a breathtaking view of the red roofs and the deep blue sea.

The countless beautiful beaches of Dubrovnik are also unique. During summer vacation, you can enjoy a whole series of picture book dream beaches with turquoise blue sea, fine pebbles, and fantastic flair.

The beauty of the area attracts visitors from all over the world. The most photogenic part is the little island, called Bled Island, in the middle of the lake with the Alps as a backdrop.

Visitors to the lake will find a wealth of activities to do. Apart from taking long walks around the lake, you can arrange a visit to Bled Island.

You can get there by taking a boat ride with a traditional Pletna boat or renting a rowboat. Once you reach the island, pay a visit to the Church of the Assumption of Maria, ring the wishing bell and climb up the clock tower.

Next, you should head to Bled Castle. The castle is built on a hill and offers beautiful views over the lake and the town of Bled. In the castle, you can find different rooms about the story and significance of the area.

Cinque Terre is located in northwest Italy, about an hour and a half ride from Genoa. In the past, these villages were isolated fisher villages, where people moved around on foot by pathways or with boats from the sea. Nowadays these well-known villages are more accessible.

Cinque Terre lies on a 20 km coastal line and includes five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. Capri, Italy is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Located a ferry ride away from the Amalfi Coast or Naples, this island is worth a visit. Capri could be a day trip but staying on the island is an amazing experience.

I highly recommend Villa Marina Capri Hotel and Spa. This hotel has the best accommodations in all of Italy! The rooms are big and the service is even better. As you arrive, you are immediately given a spa treatment and offered refreshments. (This is included with your stay.)

Things to do on the Island of Capri The island is split into two parts: Capri and Anacapri. Both sides are absolutely beautiful! On the Capri, side is sure to book a boat ride to the Blue Grotto. The Blue Grotto is one of many caves located along the coast of Capri.

Once you arrive at the entrance you will transfer to a rowboat and an Italian boatman will sing to you as you explore the cave. It is magical! If you love hiking Anacapri is your next stop. On this side of the island, you can take a chairlift to the top of Mount Solaro and hike all the way down.

The views are absolutely beautiful! After all that fun you will want to head straight to Verginiello, a restaurant that will blow your mind.

Senja, Norway

Senja is a rugged and unspoiled island in northern Norway that is often overlooked in favor of the more well-known Lofoten islands.

Senja’s main draw is its breathtaking nature which makes it an ideal destination for hiking, although bear in mind that Norwegian hiking trails are not for the fainthearted, especially if you’re scared of heights.

You can ask for hiking recommendations based on how far you want to go and what difficulty level you’re up for at your accommodation or at local tourist information offices.

If you have the budget for it, I highly recommend staying at Hamn I Senja which has spacious suites with stunning harbor views.

There are some beautiful hikes near the accommodation and if you visit between May and July, you can take advantage of the never-ending daylight with evening and night hikes.

That’s exactly what I did when I was there and I will never forget the surreal feeling of hiking at 10 PM under the golden glow of the midnight sun.

If you want a day off from hiking, you can head to the viewpoint at Bergsbotn for spectacular panoramic views of Bergsfjorden and the ocean beyond, drive the Senja National Tourist Route or embrace the slower pace of life by simply sitting and staring out of your floor to ceiling window.

Whatever you choose to do, don’t forget your camera as Senja has got to be one of the most photogenic destinations in the world. The best way to experience Senja is as part of a road trip from Tromsø, the largest city in northern Norway.

After a few days of enjoying Tromsø’s museums and pubs, drive to Brensholmen to catch the ferry to Senja, and then continue the adventure by taking the ferry from Gryllefjord to the Vesterålen islands.

In the months of September through November, the vineyards’ leaves change colors as the grapes are harvested for that year’s wine. All of this is happening with the stunning backdrop of striking mountains.

The small pueblos that pop up throughout the vineyards in La Rioja are home to some of the best bodegas (vineyards) in the world. What makes La Rioja even more impressive is that you can enjoy their world-class wine at budget travel prices because it’s made right there.

On top of being able to indulge in some of the best wines in the world, La Rioja also offers one of the best food scenes in all of Spain. Logroño, the capital city, is famous for its pinxto northern Spain’s version of tapas.

Calle Laurel is the main pinchos street in Logroño and is lined with around 100 pincho bars, each serving its own specialty pincho with the world-famous Rioja wine.

Interlaken might be small but to get the best out of Interlaken I will recommend staying at least three days in Interlaken. There are a lot of places to visit in Interlaken. You must visit the Jungfraujoch, the most popular, scenic, and expensive attraction in Interlaken.

You can reach the top of Jungfraujoch after a 7 km scenic train journey. It is the highest train station in Europe at a height of 11,000 feet. Visitors can enjoy a stunning view of the mountain Jungfrau and Eiger from the top of Jungfraujoch.

Grindelwald is a picturesque place in Interlaken, especially for skiers it is a heaven on earth. Visitors are allowed to go to the top (Grindelwald First) by taking a cable car ride.

This region lies just on the border with Germany and over the last two centuries, it has passed between French and German ownership many times. The result is that the architecture has a distinctly Germanic appearance.

Two of the most beautiful villages in France are located in this region; Eguisheim and Riquewihr. These villages are incredibly photogenic and everywhere you turn you will find Instagram-worthy material, but one of the most photographed places in the region has to be a little house in Eguisheim.

It is located on the Rue du Rempart Sud at Les Muses du Rempart d’Eguisheim. Alsace is also a big wine-making region in France with Riesling being the main grape variety.

You will see vines growing on the undulating hills of the region and you can take a drive up into the hills to get away from the crowds for spectacular views, particularly over Kayersberg.

Colmar is the best place to stay for exploring the region. There are many hotels and guest houses in the Little Venice area of Colmar as well as a large choice of restaurants.

Gower Peninsula, Wales

The Gower Peninsula is 70 square miles of pure beauty. It juts out into the Bristol Channel from the south side of Wales in a majestic show of limestone cliffs and daffodil-tinted beaches. A jaw-dropping coastal path links the whole thing up.

Particular highlights along the way include the trio of sculpted peaks at Three Cliffs Bay, which loom over a wiggling riverway between oat-topped dunes and bleached sand, and the wide scythe of a beach that is Oxwich.

Eventually, you’ll also reach the sublime head at Rhossili. Llangennith Beach spreads out below that in 2.5 miles of windblown shoreline with some of the best surfing in Wales. In summer, smiling fields of sunflowers bloom on top of the cliffs there.

They lead straight to the rock pools that link with Worm’s Head an awesome tidal island that looks like a sleeping Welsh dragon in the Atlantic Ocean. Inland in the Gower means encountering ancient Iron Age hill forts and scrambling up the heather-clad ridges of Cefn Bryn.

Doing the latter affords sweeping views over the sands to the south and the wide estuary to the north.

Photo-worthy stop-offs are everywhere, but some of the best include the pebbly cove of Pwl Du (something of a local secret) and the picturesque pastel cottages of Mumbles village (also great for ice cream and a coffee between adventures). It’s hardly a wonder this whole place was one of the UK’s first-ever designated areas of outstanding natural beauty!

Costa del Sol, Spain

Costa del Sol is one of the most picturesque destinations located in Southern Spain. Costa del Sol is formed by the coastal towns including the capital, Malaga. It’s the perfect place if you love warm weather, beaches, culture, and food.

But there are many activities to do in Costa Del Sol as every town has something to offer. If you’re looking for crystal blue water beaches, Nerja is definitely where you need to go; if you want a luxurious shopping experience you must visit Puerto Banus in Marbella; and if you’re interested in culture, the capital is your place.

The options are endless and that’s why it’s difficult to know how long and where to stay. As a local, I can tell you that Torremolinos or Benalmadena are good locations to stay as there are plenty of activities in these towns and it’s easy to travel to other towns.

If you’re staying in Benalmadena, you must visit Castillo de Colomares, a beautiful hidden gem castle and the perfect spot to take Instagrammable pictures! However, if you’re looking to stay in less touristy but beautiful towns, I would check Torre del Mar and Mijas.

The best way to explore Costa del Sol is by car if you don’t want to rely on public transport. Also, although public transport is quite good, there are some places you can’t access by bus or the travel time is not ideal.

Lastly, many tourists make the mistake of not staying for long in Costa del Sol or staying only in one town instead of traveling around to discover incredible places.

Therefore, I recommend staying a week at least, and if you’re wondering which towns are worthy, these are a must: Malaga, Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Mijas Pueblo, Marbella, Nerja, and Antequera.

Hood River, Oregon, located less than an hour from Portland, is nestled within the Columbia River Gorge. Breathtaking sights are found in every direction, with Mount Adams to the north and Mount Hood to the south. It’s also the Pacific Northwest Wine Country, with more wineries than you could possibly have time to visit.

Imagine sipping wine on a temperate summer day, looking over the mountains, and smelling fresh lavender from nearby farms. You can spend an entire day driving the Fruit Loop, a 35-mile scenic loop of orchards, breweries, fruit stands, wineries, alpaca ranches, and more.

With the mountains at your back, you can pick apple and berry varieties you’ve never even heard of before, enjoying them in the sunshine. On your way back, you can stop at Panorama Point, looking out at the entire Hood River Valley.

Located along some of the prettiest stretches of coastline in Southern California lies the town of La Jolla. With its rugged and rocky coastline, gorgeous beaches, and elaborate homes built into the hills, you could almost mistake it for a charming Mediterranean town.

The Blue Ridge Mountains are located in the eastern United States, extending 550 miles from southern Pennsylvania down through Georgia. Hierve el Agua is what Instagram dreams are made of. Located about 90 minutes south of Oaxaca City, it is one of the most popular things to do, and for good reason.

The feature is a reflective infinity pool surrounded by verdant valleys and mountains. The water, which bubbles up from the ground, is full of rich minerals that are known for having healing properties.

As the water slowly flows over the edge of the pool and down the cliff face, the minerals have collected over thousands of years to form a petrified waterfall that looks as if it has been frozen in time. It’s one of only two in the world and an amazing site in and of itself.

After you’ve soaked in the pool and pondered over the unusual rock formations in the ground, enjoy one of the nearby hikes for spectacular views of the waterfall from a different angle.

It’s easy to get to Hierve el Agua on your own via Mitla or there are plenty of tours that will take you there while stopping at the other highlights along the way. But if you really want to have the place to yourself (and get the best pictures) you should think about staying overnight.

Negril is a small heavenly beach resort town located on the western coast of the Caribbean island of Jamaica. It is about a 75-minute drive from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. Even though it is one of the furthest areas of Jamaica to get to, it is totally worth it!

Sleeping Bear Dunes, Michigan

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakes, located along the west coastline of Michigan, is a spectacular destination for tourists, photographers, trail hikers, and dune-climbing enthusiasts!

These scenic dunes are nestled between the small towns of Empire and Glen Arbor, Michigan along M-22 which was voted Best Scenic Drive by USA Today. There are several spots along the dunes that offer birds-eye views of Lake Michigan’s sparkling shoreline, long stretches of sandy beaches, and Glen Lake.

Most notable is Pierce Stocking Drive, a curving roadway featuring a covered bridge, picnic spots, dune hikes, and dune overlooks. Visitors will need a park entrance pass that can be purchased for the week or annually.

The pass can be purchased at the entrance to the dunes or online with the National Park Service at Pay.gov. Sleeping Bear Dunes is also a popular hiking destination.

The Empire Bluff Trail, located in Empire, is a 1.5-mile hike that leads the hiker through a dense forest that eventually opens up to an incredible view of Lake Michigan and the sweeping dunes.

For a more ambitious trail, the Bay View trail is 7 miles long and winds through old farm fields and pine plantations. There are several lodging options while exploring Sleeping Bear Dunes. Hotels are available in Glen Arbor and also Frankfort, Michigan.

The Homestead is a popular hotel in Glen Arbor as there is a pool and the hotel has incredible water views. If camping is more your style, the Platte River Campground has some great shady campsites that are close to the trails. There are also kayaking opportunities on the scenic Platte River.

Havasu Falls, Arizona, USA

Havasu Falls is one of the most Instagammable waterfalls in the US. It’s one of the most desirable destinations, due to its blue-green waters and rusty color of rocks.

It’s a hidden gem in the Grand Canyon area, in a deep gorge of Havasu Creek, Arizona. How to get there? The waterfall is located in the territory of the Havasupai Indian Reservation.

You must buy a permit to get to it, which is not easy due to limited places. The sale of permits starts on February 1 of each year. The only way to the waterfall is a 10-mile, difficult and demanding hike down the gorge.

Close the Havasu Falls is a campground. A permit is only allowed for 3 nights. And you must pay for 3, even if you would like to stay for one or two. It cost $375 for a weekend in 2020.

The campsite is located in a fairytale setting, but there is no running water, electricity, or coverage. Furthermore, when purchasing a permit, you must accept the rules of the Havasupai Tribe, like no alcohol, no drugs, no drones, no sports in the waterfalls, and no photos of Indians.

Havasu Falls is the more famous and most visited of the various falls along Havasu Creek. It consists of one main chute that drops over a 90-to-100-foot (27 to 30 m) vertical cliff into a series of plunge pools.

But there are five main waterfalls of Havasu Creek that you can visit during your stay. The other four are Fifty Foot Falls, Little Navajo Falls, Mooney Falls, and Beaver Falls. Each is spectacular and breathtaking.

You can hike to each of the waterfalls from the campground. The most demanding and dangerous hike is to Mooney Falls. The furthest from the Havasu Campground is Beaver Falls, 3 miles one way. Lake Bacalar, also known as the Lagoon of the seven colors, is one of the most tranquil and breathtaking places I’ve ever seen. It is situated in the southeastern part of Mexico, about 20 miles from the border with Belize.

In terms of tourist attractions, there is not much to see (apart from a Spanish stronghold) but I’d recommend you stay for a few days to enjoy nature and calmness. The name of the town Bacalar comes from a Mayan expression that means “the place where the sun rises.”

If you see the dawn breaking over the lagoon, this poetic name will come as no surprise. All the sky’s shades of yellow, pink, and orange are beautifully mirrored in the clear waters. The relaxed atmosphere and views make the perfect setting for yoga and meditation.

A boat trip around the lagoon is a must-do. You can take the boat from the pier at La Playita, a popular local restaurant. In a few hours, you will immerse yourself in the full beauty of Bacalar among dreamy hues of blue and turquoise.

On the other side of the lake, you can make a stop in a muddy area used as a natural spa. The mineral-rich mud exfoliates the skin and relaxes muscles and joints. Back from the boat trip, you can savor a meal at the restaurant.

La Playita has a varied menu with many delicious options. Swimming in the lagoon is pure bliss as the water is fresh and warm. You can also explore the lake on a kayak or a paddleboard. If you enjoy diving, Cenote Azul is the perfect spot for you, just a couple of miles away from Bacalar.

The twin-island nation of St Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean West Indies is the smallest country in the Americas, and one of the most beautiful places around the world.

It is often dubbed the Caribbean as how it used to be because of the laid-back vibes found throughout both islands and the reluctance to commercialize the islands for tourism. Don’t be fooled by their tiny size though because there are plenty of things to do on St Kitts and Nevis.

From the many beautiful beaches to choose from the white sand and black sand beaches to hiking in the rainforest past waterfalls to reach the Mountain peaks of both islands, there is something to suit everyone.

For Instagram opportunities on St Kitts visit the Brimstone Hill fortress a UNESCO world heritage site, and frolic in the battlements. Or head to the top of Timothy Hill viewpoint for a stunning picture of the narrowest part of the island and views out over both the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.

Visit the capital city of Basseterre and admire the historic colonial-style architecture and the beautiful churches around the town, grab some barbeque food from the local vendors around Port Zante and spend a relaxing afternoon in the open green space called Independence Square.

On Nevis, the botanical gardens offer ample Instagram opportunities and a team that visit the natural hot springs for the ultimate relaxation. Stay at one of the old plantation houses turned boutique hotels and learn the history of the sugar trade and the role St Kitts and Nevis played.

Volcan Tajumulco is not only the highest mountain in Central America, but it also offers one of the most beautiful views in Guatemala! Tajumulco itself may not look very aesthetic, and the hike is nowhere near as popular as the one on Acatenango to watch El Fuego erupt.

But once you’ve seen the spectacular views from the top, you will start wondering why so many tourists decide to skip Tajumulco. Tajumulco is located in Western Guatemala in the department of San Marco, near Quetzaltenango (Xela). Xela is a popular destination among travelers to study Spanish, making it the perfect place to stay and organize your hike from.

The only way to reach the top of Tajumulco is by foot and that’s a long way to the 4,220 meters (13,845 feet) high top. The hike itself is reasonably challenging.

However, the high altitude and the fact that you need to bring all your camping gear add to the challenge. Technically, it is possible to hike Tajumulco in one day allowing you to leave the camping gear behind.

However, you would miss the two most beautiful settings from the top: sunset and sunrise. I would highly recommend you stay near the top overnight. This will allow you to watch the sunrise as you arrive on the first day.

You will see the clouds slowly rising, while the sun is slowly setting and get the perfect shot. On the second day, you get to capture the sunrise over at least six different volcanoes that are visible from Tajumulco’s summit.

The only disadvantage is the fact that you need to wake up way before dusk and hike the last toughest and steepest part of Tajumulco in the dark. However, the breathtaking view you get in return is well worth the effort!

Patagonia, Chile

Patagonia Chile offers some of the most beautiful places in the world to visit and photograph. One of the most spectacular places in the country is Patagonia.

Even within Patagonia, there are so many options for places to visit, road trips to take, and areas to explore that it is a challenge coming up with an itinerary that fits it all in but Torres del Paine does not disappoint.

Considered one the most beautiful places in the world, Parque Nacional Torres del Paine lies within Patagonia in southern Chile. It offers fabulous hiking extended overnight hikes including the W route but also many shorter, day routes.

You may get lucky and see a Puma on your hike keep your distance but get that spectacular photo from afar. Unless you have time for a multi-day road trip, it is best to fly into Punta Arenas and rent a car.

If you’ve had a long travel day, we recommend staying nearby in an Airbnb for the night, then proceeding to the Park the next day. Within the Park there are more limited options, a good recommendation is the Hotel Rio.

This allows for hiking during the stay and a restful night’s sleep. They also offer a very nice spa, pool, and highly recommended activities. For the activities, it is best to sign up for these before you arrive as they can fill up.

You have many options from boat rides, hikes, horseback riding (highly recommend), and climbing. For day hikes consider Cuernos Lookout, Salto Grande, Laguna Azul, Salto Lake, and Lago Nordenskjold. The Lago Grey and Grey Glacier boat rides are also recommended.

The windswept mountains and lakes are like nothing you’ve likely seen before just gorgeous. For the more adventurous, you can hike the W route spending several nights along the route you must reserve this quite ahead of time as space is limited.

A visit to Patagonia would not be complete without heading further South so head back to Punta Arenas. Enjoy a tasting at Austral Brewery (Cerveceria Austral, book ahead) and consider booking a trip to Isla Magdelena, a day trip to the island inhabited only by penguins.

The boat trip there is spectacular but seeing the penguins is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. This trip can usually be booked a day or two ahead in Punta Arenas.

The Colca Canyon trek is quite challenging. The Colca Canyon is twice as deep as the more famous grand canyon. Therefore the hike includes a steep climb in and out.

The change in altitudes also means you come across a variety of landscapes. From green farmlands to dry deserts. There is also a unique flora and fauna. Most Colca canyon treks include a stop at the Cruz del condor at a dizzying 3400 meters altitude.

Here you will see the Andean condor fly through the canyon below. These birds are among the biggest in the world and are a majestic sight.

On your way from Arequipa to the Colca Canyon, you might also see alpacas or vicunas. So whether you like to see culture, mountains, wildlife or nature you will not regret a visit to the Colca canyon.

The Central Andes Mountains holds one of the most famous ancient landmarks in the world: Machu Picchu. Trekking this range leaves you in awe. In just a few days, you can climb high up near snowy peaks and then back down into the high, cloud rainforest on the east side of the range.

This journey is known as the Salkantay Trail, but there are other shorter versions like the Inca Trail. While the Salkantay Trail will take you 4600 meters (15,000+ feet), the actual height of the mountains is even more staggering.

The Andean range crosses the entire South American continent and peaks in Argentina at almost 7,000 meters (~23,000 feet). As you might expect, there’s more to see in the central Andes than just Machu Picchu.

You can also see Rainbow Mountain, known for its beautiful natural range of colors against a deep blue sky. This is another incredible hike in the region. Getting around the Andes take time, but travel further and you’ll find Lake Titicaca at Puno, Peru.

I consider this to be the most beautiful place I have ever seen stars. The milky way stretched wide and far too many shooting stars leap across the black sky to count. So much of the Andes is rugged, practically untouched beauty and is truly one of the most extreme inhabited environments in the world.

While these sights are popular bucket list items for many travelers, the Andes mountains amazed me for their impressive diversity in ecology, ranging from steamy jungle to chilly mountain peaks. Not only that, but every bend and turn in the road here is a chance to feel true wonder (and adrenaline as your vehicle nears drop-off cliffs!!).

Bariloche, Argentina

Nestled in the foothills of the Andean Mountains on the Nahuel Huapi Lake, San Carlos de Bariloche is a city in the Patagonia region in southern Argentina. While Patagonia is notorious for its unspoiled natural landscapes, Bariloche offers a wider range of things to do and see.

The city center itself has a European vibe thanks to the Swiss-style architecture, which makes it an enchanting place to explore on foot. Since it sits on a lake and it’s not a big urban metropolis, it feels more like a small town rather than a city. Bariloche is also a fantastic foodie destination.

It’s known as the Argentinian capital of chocolate and ice cream, so it’s packed with chocolate and ice cream shops, and the main street (Mitre) always smells like melted chocolate.

Although the city is a great place for carnivores, you can also find plenty of Italian restaurants, as well as other places to eat that are vegetarian-friendly. There are also enough bars if you’re looking to have a fun night out.

Just outside of Bariloche, you’ll find many places to enjoy nature (even if you’re not a hiker), as well as outdoor activities such as kayaking, biking, and rafting. From the Cerro Campanario viewpoint to the Llao Llao Municipal Park to Cascada de los Duendes (a lovely little waterfall), all of these places are easily reachable by public transportation.

You can also relax at one of the lake beaches near the city or take the famous one-day road trip Ruta de los Siete Lagos, which passes through seven beautiful lakes. Stay at the central Tangoinn Downtown, which is suitable for both budget and mid-range travelers.

Caye Caulker – Belize

The small and colorful island Caye Caulker belongs to the country of Belize and is located in the Caribbean Sea. The best way to get to the island is to take a short water taxi ride from Belize City.

As soon as you set foot on the island, you are immediately entering the Caribbean flair. Go slow is the well-known motto of the small tropical island and that’s what you feel!

Caye Caulker is generally not very big (it extends over almost 1.8 km) so you can reach every spot on the island by foot or by bike. Everywhere on the island, you can see sweeping palms, colorful wooden houses, hammocks, pelicans, and small boats in the water.

Namibia should be on everyone’s travel wish list. The country in the south of Africa has one of the most diverse natural wonders to offer. Namibia has wildlife in its national parks, ghost towns, the largest colony of seals, deep canyons, charming towns, friendly people, and one of the most beautiful places around the world: the dunes of Sossusvlei.

Sossusvlei is a national park in the west of the country, a 4-hour drive from its capital Windhoek. It is home to the most stunning dunes, yet it is known for its stunning vleis’. These vleis hold mysterious old acacia trees against a backdrop of orange sand dunes and white clay soil. Sossusvlei is the vlei the national park is named after, but Hidden Vlei and Dead Vlei are much more beautiful.

It is especially spectacular during sunrise and sunset, so make sure to book your stay with the state-owned NWR inside the park to be able to enter the first and latest. The NWR offers both lodges as camping spots.

The dunes are worth your time as well, though you might just want to climb only one of them. Dune 45 is 45 kilometers from the entrance gate and is the most popular during sunrise. Though Big Mama and Big Daddy are much higher and fewer people climb those dunes.

The Blue Moon Valley in China’s Yunnan Province is as cool as the name sounds and is surely one of the most beautiful places in the world. Not only is it one of the most beautiful places in China, but it’s also very easy to reach. A series of ice-blue lakes and ponds, cascades, and waterfalls is one of the most scenic in all of China and is deservedly popular.

It’s so beautiful that it’s amongst China’s revered AAAAA sights, which means that it’s one of the best there is. The Blue Moon Valley is a very easy half-day trip away from the UNESCO World Heritage Site and the ancient city of Lijiang.

Lijiang has more than enough accommodation for every taste and budget. Regular minibusses leave from the Mao statue in Lijiang and reach the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain scenic area in about half an hour.

To get the best snaps, get there first thing in the morning while the light is good and the hordes haven’t arrived yet. Because it’s an AAAAA site, it’s deservedly popular. If you’re looking for that perfect shot for the gram, you could sit on an albino yak on the top of a cascade with an ice-blue lake and snow-capped mountains in the background.

Or perhaps you want to pose in a traditional costume of the local Naxi people. All of these are readily available and quite popular. You can take stunning pictures in any direction you point your camera, but the best spot is probably at White Water Terrace at the uppermost lake.

It’s possible to also explore other scenic spots, such as taking the gondola up to the glacier of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, the Yak, and Spruce meadows, or the Jade Water Village after visiting the Blue Moon Valley. You, your camera, and all your followers will absolutely love Blue Moon Valley.

Built in 1921, the moody grey brick arched bridge spans over 90 meters and is surrounded by green jungle. Arrive in the early morning to see the mist rising up and over the bridge and if you are lucky you can catch sight of the Kandy train crossing the bridge too.

Much of the terrain around the town is planted with tea and a visit to one of the nearby tea plantations and factories is a great way to capture one of the quintessential images of Sri Lanka.

The lush green shrubs are methodically planted and picked and weave their way beautifully across the landscape. For the adventurers, a hike up Ella Rock or to Little Adams Peak offers great views of the surrounding area.

Or venture a little further out of town to explore some of the pretty waterfalls like Diyaluma or Ravana Falls. It has to be said, Petra is probably one of the most beautiful and possibly most instagrammable destinations in the Middle East. And there is no surprise why it was voted one of the New 7 Wonders of the World in 2018.

In all honesty, it doesn’t get much prettier than this rose-colored city from 400 BC, which is literally carved into a cliff face. There is of course far more to this busy tourist destination than the most commonly photographed Treasury.

In fact, there is enough to keep you busy for several days if you are looking for some true adventure and off-the-beaten-path magic. Simply do a little further research and find the tracks or hikes that suit the type of travel that you lust after.

For example, for a unique and quieter experience of the treasury hike the cliff opposite to get a bird’s eye view from above, or take the many steps up to the Monastery.

But for a truly unique experience wander the surrounding mountains and explore the many caves and smaller intricate dwellings. Petra is a travel photographer’s mecca.

Another popular thing to do is visit the Treasury by candlelight and the experience is beyond beautiful. If you are flying into the international airport of Amman, keep in mind that there will be a 3+ hour drive to reach Petra.

And then a 30-minute walk from the entrance to the Treasury. We recommend that you stay at the Mavenpick Resort Petra if you are looking to be direct across from the Visitor Center and entrance to the site.

The best tips to offer take good walking/hiking shoes and be the first to get to the Treasury in the morning. It means an early start, but it will be well worth your while.

Higashiyama is another beautiful typical Japanese district of Kyoto to walk in. Additionally, you can go to the wonderful Fushimi-Inari Taisha Shrine. In this temple, you will find an impressive path with hundreds of traditional Torii Gates dating from 711!

Another original place that is worth the visit is the bamboo forest. In Arashiyama Bamboo Grove you will be able to walk in the middle of soaring bamboo stalks. Some of them are up to 30 meters high!

Kiyomizudera temple is a great place to discover. Founded in 780, this temple is famous for its wooden stage which offers a breathtaking panoramic view of Kyoto!

East Java, Indonesia

Just a short 30-minute ferry from Bali is Java island. An island in Indonesia with unspoiled nature, underrated destinations, and boasting some of the country’s most amazing tourist spots.

And the East side of Java has to be the most impressive part of the entire island. Indonesia’s most spectacular waterfall, an acidic lake, and an active volcano surrounded by a sea of sand are located on this land.

Ijen crater lake is the world’s largest acidic lake and is located on the Easternmost side of Java. The best way for this adventure is to reach the crater in the dark and hike up for around 2 hours and back down into the crater where the miners are at work mining sulfur.

Here is where you will see the mining process and a result of this is a blue flame burning created by sulphuric gases. If you arrived in East Java by ferry from Bali, the next stop can either be Tumpak Sewu waterfall or mount Bromo.

You can reach Probolinggo, the closest city to Mount Bromo, by train from Banyuwangi. Most visitors that go to Ijen spend the night in Banyuwangi. Mount Bromo is an active volcano set in one of the most stunning landscapes.

And the sea of sand surrounding Mount Bromo and other volcanos makes for a landscape scene unlike any other. The experience of walking up to the Bromo through the fine sand while the volcano spits smoke out of its mouth, and finally walking on the ridge of a rumbling volcano, is one of East Java’s most amazing adventures.

Further South of Bromo is Indonesia’s most impressive waterfall. Tumpak Sewu in the Indonesian language translates to 1,000 falls. And there couldn’t be a better way to describe this epic cascade. A sunken hole with cliffs around 120 meters high and cascades of water all the way around. Tumpak Sewu is stunning from above.

However, the real adventure is reaching the foot through the jungle and along bamboo bridges and water streams. From the foot, you will get the perspective of how huge and beautiful this fall is.

Some of the highlights and must-sees in Bali are the impressive waterfalls such as Sekumpul waterfall, Tibumana waterfall, and Banyumala waterfall.

But also the famous Tegalalang rice fields or the UNESCO-classified Jatiluwih rice fields. Don’t forget to experience the local culture in one of the beautiful and photogenic temples on the island. And if you want to swing above rice fields or a waterfall, then your dream can come true in Bali!

There are several swings where you can experience this. Despite Bali being quite a small island, it’s hard to travel around from one place. So if you want to see the north and east coast of the island, the best option is to book different accommodations. For example in Canggu or Seminyak explore the South West coast.

Or add Uluwatu if you want to explore the south coast and its golden beaches longer. Then head to the Ubud area for the rice fields, climb Mount Batur and visit some waterfalls and temples. Stay in Amed to explore authentic Bali with incredible views of Mount Agung and its quieter east coast. If you have time left, you can go island hopping from Amed to the Gili’s or Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida.

Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan

Gilgit-Baltistan is a mountainous region in Pakistan and is undoubtedly one of the world’s most beautiful places. The many valleys that fill this territory are absolutely stunning, to say the least, which isn’t surprising considering GB is home to dozens of the world’s tallest mountains. Hunza is the crown jewel of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The valley is known for the famous Attabad Lake and the iconic Passu Cones, as well as the slightly scary Hussaini Bridge that crosses the Hunza River.

Phander Valley is another must-visit in this region that’s something straight out of a fairytale. Bright blue lakes and rivers are set against green pastures and snow-capped peaks. It’s more peaceful than other valleys and was my personal favorite spot in all of Gilgit-Baltistan.

And to get really off the beaten path in a valley that sits at over 3,300 meters, you should take the bumpy yet rewarding journey to Chapursan, the most remote hamlet in the entire territory.

Keep in mind that trekking is a major highlight of this region, so it’s not surprising that they also possess some of the most epic views of all. The Nanga Parbat (the 9th highest mountain in the world) Basecamp Trek might sound intimidating, but even novice trekkers can take it on.

The Rakaposhi Basecamp Trek which begins in the village of Minapin is another excellent choice for some of Pakistan’s best vistas. To reach Gilgit-Baltistan, you have three options.

You can take an overnight bus from Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad which will take about 17 hours, cross the beautiful Shandur Pass from the town of Mastuj which will lead you right into Phander Valley, or you can even fly to Gilgit if you so choose.

Either way, it shouldn’t take long after arrival for you to feel like it was worth the trip!

Personally, I would suggest you stay somewhere between Panjim and Palolem to truly enjoy your stay in Goa and be close to the beautiful, secluded attractions here. Spend time in Old Goa to immerse yourself in the local culture and you will see an explored beautiful side of this state.

Wadi Rum, Jordan

The desert scenery with its warm golden and reddish tones with no towns or cities in sight makes Wadi Rum a place where you can leave behind everything and simply immerse yourself in the beauty of the place.

The valley is home to several breathtaking canyons, rock formations, and rock bridges. And if you’re wondering about the human history in this place you will be surprised at the inscriptions suggesting that caravans passed through the wadi in ancient times.

The best thing to do in Wadi Rum is a desert tour with a jeep and a Bedouin guide. The Bedouin families in this part of Jordan are extremely knowledgeable about the desert and will lead you to the best places to enjoy the red sand dunes and see the sunset.

It’s a real shame that Oman is an underrated country. I believe it’s one of the most beautiful places to visit. In fact, I have seriously contemplated moving to this Middle Eastern gem.

Traveling here was truly an eye-opening experience and I am grateful I was able to discover how amazing Oman is! There are a lot of reasons to fall in love with Oman.

For starters, this place is rich in natural beauties – beaches, mountains, breathtaking deserts, diverse flora and fauna, and well-protected nature reserves. This country is not known to many people so there’s no competition with crowds or tourists when visiting beautiful locations.

And of course, Oman is filled with compassionate, friendly people who will never fail to make you feel welcome. When it comes to things to do, there are plenty of great options whether you want to explore nature or experience Oman’s rich culture.

You can make several day trips from the capital, Muscat. I want to mention in particular Wahiba sands -the most visited sand dune in the country. It can be a wonderful experience to camp overnight in the desert as well as go dune-bashing.

I think it’s a perfect place to do yoga and meditation too! At night, a whole new scene unfolds in Muscat, so it’s best to have both a day tour and a night tour in one day.

El Nido located in Palawan, Philippines is a gem known for its white-sand beaches, coral reefs, and the Bacuit archipelago. There’s quite a lot of adventuring to do in and around El Nido. You could book an island hopping tour that can last between a day or a few, or you could also zipline across Depeldet island if you’re not afraid of heights.

Other options include renting a stand-up paddle boat or snorkeling with turtles. If you’re lazy, you can just opt to lounge at a beach bar while watching the tide rise. One experience I definitely recommend is kayaking.

There’s nothing like taking off on your own, working in a bit of exercise, and then being rewarded with quiet, white sand beaches, tall palms, makeshift swings, and the occasional coconut stall. If you decide to hit the town of El Nido, expect a lot of hustle in this bustling town.

You’ll also see large grills with fresh local fish and seafood as well as more sophisticated eateries. Just keep in mind that El Nido is fast growing to the demands of tourism so be mindful of your actions and the impact they might have.

Support genuine, local businesses and keep your ecological footprint minimal. Other than that, don’t forget to soak in the sun and the spirit of El Nido.

The East Coast of Tasmania

The spectacular east coast of Tasmania is one of the most beautiful coastal drives with something different popping up at each turn.

The east coast can be accessed by starting from Hobart and reaching Coles Bay at the southern end of the coast. Alternatively, you could start from Launceston and drive east.

Both these drives will take about 2 to 2.5 hours each. The best base to explore the east coast is St Marys, a small village located about midway between north and south. There are several reasonable Bed and Breakfasts to choose from.

Freycinet National Park, a peninsula of granite Mountains is surrounded by eucalyptus forest, sparkling beaches, and turquoise blue bays. Here, there are several trails and scenic drives.

The most spectacular of the bays is Wineglass Bay, which involves a hike to be rewarded with awesome views.

At the northern end of the east coast lies the stunning Binalong Bay and Bay of Fires so named because of rocks covered with bright orange lichen that looks striking in daylight, with their contrast against the turquoise of the ocean water.

Bicheno Blowhole and St. Columba falls, which are Tasmania’s tallest falls are also worth visiting. The east coast is probably the most visited and scenic part of Tasmania.

Cairns, Australia

If you are looking for a coastal destination along Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, Cairns is by far a beautiful place you can’t miss. Located in far north Queensland on Australia’s east coast, Cairns is the perfect combination of where the rainforest meets the ocean.

The city itself is full of family-friendly activities, attractions, and entertainment, including a free lagoon with lifeguards on duty for safe swimming. Just a short drive from the city and you will find yourself in rainforest-covered mountains in the quaint village of Kuranda.

Staying anywhere near the Marlin Marina, such as Shangri-La Hotel: The Marina Cairns will put you within easy walking distance to restaurants, attractions, and ocean scenery.

But perhaps best of all is the fact that Cairns is an easy day trip to so many other stunning North Queensland destinations – The Daintree Rainforest, Green Island, Paronella Park, and Atherton Tablelands, just to name a few.

Bruny Island

There is something special about islands and this specialness is magnified when you’re on an island off an island. This is what you get when you visit Bruny Island, located off the southeast coast of Tasmania. At 362 square kilometers, it’s a reasonable size and easy to get to on a car ferry from the mainland.

This extra level of difficulty does keep the masses away though which helps give Bruny a special untouched vibe. Its beauty is in the details of the gorgeous beaches, the stunning coastline, the bush interior, and the native Tasmanian wildlife which is evident everywhere.

There are many things to do on Bruny Island involving nature and top-class food and wine. Hiking is great with South Bruny Island National Park taking up most of the southern end of the island.

Australia is filled with gems from the East to the West. However, there is one place that is hard to beat for beauty and adventure, Fraser Island. Fraser Island is a heritage-listed island on the East Coast of Australia, Queensland.

To witness its true beauty in person you must take a boat across from mainland Australia, which is only a 20 min trip. Once you land on Fraser Island you will see why it is so beautiful.

There are a few landmarks that stand out, such as the Champagne Pools. These are naturally formed pools that when the tide comes in, create a bubbling effect, almost like a jacuzzi. You can also visit the famous Lake McKenzie, made up of pure fresh rainwater which is so blue you could get lost in a gaze staring at it too long.

The sand at the lake is also pure silica, the whitest sand you’ll ever witness. Fraser Island can only be explored with a four-wheel-drive car, which makes it even more memorable and thrilling. Driving on the famous 75-mile beach, it’s a joy to endure.

Finally, to put the cherry on top of the cake, wildlife is in abundance on Fraser Island. During certain seasons you can even spot whales as well as wild turtles, manta rays, and dolphins.

You can either opt for a cruise from Airlie Beach or Hamilton Island or even charter your own yacht. It’s one of the rare places in the world where you can go bareboating, which means you don’t need a license.

The absolute highlight is Whitehaven Beach. It’s one of the whitest beaches in the world! The sand is unbelievably soft. You can get there by boat or helicopter.

If you want to make the best of it, make sure to go on the bush walk to Hill Inlet Lookout. The views from there are absolutely stunning! You can also opt for a scenic flight. It’s a great way to see the islands, Whitehaven, and the Great Barrier Reef.

It will also allow you to see the beautiful heart reef, Australia’s most famous natural landmark! In terms of accommodation, you can either opt for one of the luxury resorts on Hamilton, Daydream, or Hayman Island or, if you are on a budget, a holiday rental in Airlie Beach.

Great Ocean Road, Australia

The Great Ocean Road is one of the world’s best road trip itineraries. Spanning a total of 243km this coastal stretch of road can be found in the state of Victoria in Australia and should be added to your Australian bucket list.

The Great Ocean Road was the idea behind a man called Howard Hitchcock and it was built by returning Australian soldiers from World War II. It was dedicated to the very soldiers that built this road and fought in the war, making the Great Ocean road the world’s biggest War Memorial.

The start of the Great Ocean Road can be found in the town of Torquay, famous for being the birthplace of surfing brands like Rip Curl and the famous Bell’s Beach Rip Curl Pro annual surfing competition.

A stop you must make on this road trip is Teddy’s Lookout, a lookout point that showcases the beauty of the Great Ocean road. The view spans for miles and features deep turquoise ocean views.

The Twelve Apostles are the biggest and most famous attraction along the Great Ocean Road and subsequently the busiest. While I do love the views and landscape here, it’s hard to enjoy with so many tourists, I would recommend coming closer to sunset.

Loch Ard Gorge was my favorite part of the Great Ocean Road, I think it’s far more beautiful than anything up to this point. Loch Ard Gorge became famous after a shipwreck that happened here.

The water in this particular area is so clear and blue, it’s hard to believe it is real. There are many areas and viewpoints to explore here so take your time and don’t rush through it.

There are many options for staying along the Great Ocean Road from camping to hotels and Airbnb. I would recommend staying in the town on Lorne as it is a mid-way point and the Great Ocean Road needs more than a day to explore.

Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand

Mount Cook National Park is one of New Zealand’s most beautiful areas of natural beauty with breathtaking scenery. Located in New Zealand’s South Island, the remote and rugged park is home to the country’s highest mountain and has some of the most incredible landscapes that you will recognize from your Instagram feed – with the bright blue waters of Lake Pukaki and stunning snow-capped mountains.

Fun things you can do in Mount Cook include many short walks and hikes. The most popular is the Hooker Valley Track due to its easy access along the Hooker River, its suspension swing bridges, and its incredible mountain and lake scenery.

If you have money to spend you can book a heli-hike where you can fly in a helicopter, and land on the Tasman glacier for the ultimate hiking experience.

Alternatively, you can take a ride on a boat that takes you up close and personal to some large bright blue floating icebergs in the Tasman glacial lake. Mount Cook is also part of a designated International Dark Sky Reserve which makes it an ideal spot for stargazing.

To explore the national park you will need to base yourself in Mount Cook Village (located approximately halfway between Queenstown and Christchurch).

There are only a handful of hotels and hostels so you will need to book your accommodation well in advance during the summer peak season on the South Island.

The Hermitage Hotel is the most famous place to stay with rooms offering majestic mountain views, but if you are on a budget then the YHA is a fantastic and highly-rated hostel.

Wanaka, New Zealand

If you are looking for one of the most instagrammable destinations in New Zealand then you definitely can’t go past Roys Peak in Wanaka. It is an incredible viewpoint overlooking the beautiful Lake Wanaka and the Southern Alps mountain range.

View for days, it really cannot be beaten. The hike to Roys Peak is not without its challenges, namely the very steep uphill track to the top.

Unlike many tracks in New Zealand that are a beautiful journey through bush and mountains, this is a hard slog up a 4WD style track. It is relentless, unsheltered, and completely exposed to the elements.

It can be freezing and snowy in the winter and a sweltering hike during the summer, so you do need to be prepared with food, water, and clothing no matter what season you visit.

The famous Instagram viewpoint is not quite at the peak of Mt Roy, so whatever you do, do not stop here. Spend the extra 30 minutes to hike the summit as the views get even better from up there.

While you are in beautiful Wanaka, there are lots of other incredible activities, such as taking a Wanaka water taxi out to Mou Waho Island, taking a beautiful yet far easier walk to the Blue Pools, or in the winter, there are three great ski fields in the area, all with amazing views too.

Queenstown, New Zealand

My favorite place in the world, and soon to be yours, is Queenstown in New Zealand. As soon as you fly into their international airport, you’ll understand why. Queenstown sits at the head of Lake Wakatipu and is surrounded by multiple towering peaks.

It almost feels like the area could be part of the fjord lands by the way the mountains climb up directly from the lake into the sky. Because Queenstown is a major tourist destination, it’s also set up very well for excursions of all types.

You can enjoy skiing in one of the multiple resorts in the winter or in summer head down the shotover river on a high-speed exhilarating jet boat. If you’re looking to get away from some of the crowds and snap some shots of the beautiful landscapes, then you can head down the lake towards Glenorchy, a sleepy little village taking you directly into the mountains.

It’s also the start of one of New Zealand’s Great Walks, the Routeburn. The tracks and trails really offer the opportunity to get lost in wildlife, so be warned!

Lastly, you can’t go to New Zealand and not see some of Lord of the Rings’ backdrops. Many of the scenes were filmed in the Wakatipu basin area, so if you ever find yourself having Deja Vu, then the location may have been on a film somewhere along the way.

There are many options when looking for places to stay, from hostels to high-end resort spas. Whatever your budget, you’ll find something for you. The same can be said about the food too. Many top chefs choose to live in the area for the lifestyle, so you’ll be sure to find an Instagrammable meal or two in town.

A breathtakingly beautiful destination that is untouched by humans is only visited by a couple of thousand people a year. Standing on ice-capped mountains, thousands of miles away from the nearest hotel, watching penguins walk to the beach is unlike any other place on earth.

This magical place is the ice continent of Antarctica. Most people visit Antarctica by taking an expedition cruise from Argentina, across the Drake Passage.

The ship is your home as you cruise by sea ice and icebergs. Be sure to keep an eye on the horizon for the blowhole of a minke or humpback whale. It’s easy to feel like you’re on another planet when visiting Antarctica.

Just because there aren’t hotels on the continent, doesn’t mean there aren’t things to do. Ship staff is happy to explain the unique geology of Antarctica while hiking.

Kayaking is a great way to get up close to nature in a peaceful way. For the brave (and a little crazy) traveler, many ships offer polar plunges where you can actually swim in the Antarctic Ocean. For a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience, camping on the ice is an optional experience.
