Address: Museumstraat 2, 1071 XX Amsterdam, Netherlands

Known For: Dishes made from authentic Dutch products

Where better to enjoy Dutch food than in Amsterdam, right next to the center of history and culture? The fine-dining restaurant RIJKS is situated within the Rijksmuseum, one of the most significant museums in the world, featuring an extraordinary collection of Hals, Vermeer, Rembrandt, and other Dutch Masters.

Thanks to the remarkable interpretation of Dutch cuisine by young chef Joris Bijdendijk, the restaurant of the Rijksmuseum has received numerous distinctions. Almost everything on the menu is sourced from The Netherlands, from Zeeland oysters to cheeses to local beef. The vegetable dishes, many of which feature ingredients grown in the restaurant’s garden, are particularly excellent.

The menu varies according to the season, featuring cuisines like dry-aged farm duck served with the bird’s tongue and heart, roasted young leeks with chanterelles and truffles, and a goat terrine with bitter lettuce and cranberries. Most dishes are served as small plates, making an experimental and exciting meal. You can even try their six-course tasting menu.

Take a look at my dining experience at RIJKS in the video below.

The restaurant also offers a wine list that includes Dutch varieties, which are uncommon outside the country. During the summer, you can make a reservation on their large terrace, where you can eat while admiring views of the nearby Rijksmuseum.

Address: Sophialaan 55, Amsterdam, 1075 BP, Netherlands

Known For: Innovative European tapas-style dishes

Ron Blaauw can undoubtedly be called a culinary genius after converting his 2-star restaurant in 2013 into a simple gastro bar that was an immediate success. This hip, urban restaurant is a great spot to sample globally-influenced Asian fusion food.

Here, you can savor inventive simplicity that focuses on unique combinations and distinct flavors. The restaurant chef experiments with different flavors and textures, giving each recipe his unique twist by adjusting the spice or crispiness needed to produce some classic dishes.

Ron Gastrobar is undoubtedly not a bruin café in a shadowy alley. It boasts an open kitchen and a modern black-and-white style with light wood accents, creating a trendy atmosphere.

You will also find a vast terrace to book during the summer. The menu includes over 20 food items, priced at €15, such as goose liver with red beets, risotto with smoked eel, and steak with lemon and lovage. Of course, there are also well-chosen wines and other beverages available.

Overall, the excellent, affordable cuisine and wine at RON Gastrobar make dining there a true feast for the senses.
