Minori, Italy, has a population of just under 3,000 people and is a quaint and peaceful destination that tourists often overlook. Minori may be small, but it’s big on personality and culture. Plus, it’s a great place to hang your hat while exploring the Amalfi Coast.

Neighboring the equally gorgeous town of Maiori and just a short drive from Amalfi and Ravello, this colorful fishing village offers a quieter and more authentic experience for travelers who want to escape the crowds and soak up the true essence of southern Italy.

Getting to Minori is easy, with options like the Amalfi Coast bus service, private transfers, or even a scenic ferry ride from Sorrento. And once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by a warm and welcoming community and stunning views of the sea and the surrounding mountains.

You can easily reach Minori from neighboring towns if you love a scenic drive. The drive may or may not be easy for you (depending on if you’ve had enough espresso for the day). I did it and thought the twisting turns along the seaside cliffs were an absolute joyride.

1. Visit the Villa Romana

First on our list is one of Minori’s top attractions – the stunning Villa Romana. Villa Romana is an ancient Roman villa dating back to the 1st Century AD, and it’s situated a few steps from Minori’s center. The villa was rediscovered in the 1930s and is one of the most remarkable archaeological sites on the Amalfi Coast. 

This historic Roman villa is open to the public for touring and is also available as accommodations in Minori. Visitors can explore the beautiful remains of the villa’s original structure, including the intricate mosaics and frescoes that adorn the walls and floors. 

But it’s not just the interior that’s deserving of your time. The garden outside the villa is also a sight, with its lush greenery and ancient ruins. Visitors to Villa Romana can take a guided tour or explore the villa independently. And the best part? Admission is free!

If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway, what better way to unwind than by soaking up the sun at Minori Beach? With its clear blue waters and soft golden sand, Minori Beach is the perfect spot for a day of relaxation.

And if you’re feeling adventurous, there are plenty of water sports to try, like paddleboarding, kayaking, and even windsurfing. There are many beach club terraces at this beach for you to sip that glass of prosecco or an Aperol-spritz along the shining blue sea.

This stretch of sandy paradise slightly differs from your average beach. If you want a beautiful sea view and private space, book a spot at one of the many beach clubs available. If you’re traveling with young kids, a tiny beach is available to the public. The section of the beach closest to the pier is completely free (“spiaggia libera”) and ideal for swimming.

The prime feature of Minori Beach is the laid-back atmosphere. There’s no need to rush. Take your time, relax, and enjoy the small moments. And when the sun begins to set, you’ll be treated to one of the most stunning sunsets you’ve ever seen.

Among Minori’s finest enjoyable outdoor activities is hiking the Path of the Lemons. This hiking trail links Minori to the nearby town of Maiori, offering amazing panoramas of the mountains and the sea. This family-friendly hike is a delightful way to explore the lush lemon groves and the charming historical center of Maiori.

The hike is known for its stunning sea views, beautiful Mediterranean landscapes, and gorgeous lemon gardens. The route is easy to follow, well-maintained, and suitable for people of all ages. Along the way, you’ll be surrounded by thousands of fragrant lemons used to make the famous limoncello liqueur this corner of Italy is known for. The altar is a masterpiece of baroque art, with marble columns, gilded statues, and a beautiful painting of the Madonna and Child. The light that filters through the stained glass windows creates a magical atmosphere, perfect for contemplation and reflection.

While Minori is undoubtedly a gem in its own right, the beauty of this town is amplified by its proximity to neighboring towns like Positano and Ravello. So a day trip to these stunning towns is a must when visiting Minori!

First up, Positano. This colorful and photogenic town is known for its winding alleys, upscale boutiques, and picturesque beaches. Amble along the narrow streets, take in the fantastic panoramas of the Mediterranean Sea and indulge in the local seafood.

Next on our list is Ravello. This town is perched high on the hills above the Amalfi Coast, offering amazing views of the coastline below. Visit Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone, and soak up the history and culture of this ancient town.

8. Visit Salvatore De Riso’s Pastry Shop

Salvatore De Riso’s Pastry Shop is famous in Minori for its exquisite pastries and desserts. Salvatore De Riso is a well-known pastry chef who has been creating heavenly sweets for over 40 years. His shop is located at the town’s center and is a fantastic experience place for anyone with a sweet tooth.

This family-run pastry shop has been around for half a century and has become a staple in the town. It’s no wonder why – just one step inside, you’re transported to a pastry paradise!

Aside from the taste that makes this place unique, Salvatore De Riso’s Pastry Shop is also known for its beautiful presentation, with each pastry looking like a work of art. They even have a pastry named after the town of Minori itself – the “Minori Dream,” a delicious pastry filled with lemon cream and almonds.

But the most appealing aspect? You can enjoy your pastry with a stunning view of the Amalfi Coast. Salvatore De Riso’s Pastry Shop is located on the coast, offering panoramic views that will take your breath away. And if you want to take some pastries, they also have a shop next door where you can stock up on all your favorites.

You won’t want to leave Minori without trying at least one of their pastries! It’s a place where tradition meets creativity, and every bite is a taste of heaven.

9. Spend a Day in the Neighboring Town of Maiori

Maiori is another small town gem along the Amalfi Coast that is also a little more off the beaten path than the more popular towns of Amalfi, Atrani, Ravello, and Positano. Right next door to Minori, this town is worth spending a day, particularly if you love beaches, as it features the largest beach along the Amalfi Coast, known to the locals as Paradise Beach – a name well deserved!

It’s an entirely different beach style, too; it’s not the darker sand you’ll find in Minori, but rather a long white sand beach. This is the spot if you’re eager to get your feet sandy or jump into the ocean. Once again, feel free to picture yourself with that prosecco or Aperol spritz in hand… have you booked your flight yet?

There are also a bunch of terrific cultural hotspots and landmarks to explore, such as the Church of Santa Maria a Mare, the Church of San Francesco, and the Castle of San Nicola de Thoro Plano. There a no shortage of places to find a great bite to eat either, ranging from tiny local cafes like Pasticceria Napoli to the striking Norman Tower.

10. Stay at an Italian Hotel and Spa Villa

One of the best accommodations in Minori (and the entire Amalfi Coast for that matter) is a classic Italian hotel and spa villa. We stayed at the Ravello Art Apartments just up the road from Minori. As you can see from the image above, this was situated on the banks of the coastline and had magnificent views of the ocean and coast. Take me back!

These hotel and bed and breakfast hybrids are often housed in stunning historic buildings with classic Italian architecture and offer a relaxing and indulgent experience.

At these hotels, you can relax by the pool, enjoy a massage or spa treatment, and enjoy remarkable Mediterranean Sea views. And the prime feature? You’re just steps away from some of the best attractions Minori provides. You can do it all comfortably and in style with an Italian hotel and spa villa as your home base.

Villa Romano is a textbook example of a dreamy hotel and spa experience. Another place to try for a luxurious escape is Palazzo Vingius which is right on the coast. Then there’s the only Mezzacapo Castle, a true fairytale destination based on a French chateau, commanding breathtaking views of the Med.

11. Taste Authentic Flavors and Visit Piazza Centrale Minori

Your list of things to do in Minori isn’t complete without tasting authentic local specialties, and one of the best places to start is Piazza Centrale, the main square. You’ll find multiple restaurants serving traditional Italian dishes that satisfy your taste here.

You can’t come to Italy and not try pasta! One dish you must try in Minori is the spaghetti alle vongole, a classic Italian dish of spaghetti with fresh clams in a garlic and white wine sauce. Of course, you must try the pizza when you’re in Italy. And in Minori, you’ll find some of the best pizza around. The doughy yet crispy crust topped with fresh ingredients will make you return for more.

Being a coastal town, seafood is a must-try here in Minori. You can’t go wrong with a seafood platter filled with the freshest fish, mussels, and clams the Mediterranean Sea offers.

And let’s not forget about dessert. Minori is known for its delicious gelato, and you can find some of the best gelato shops in Piazza Centrale, like Bar Gelateria Europa. You can enjoy all this while sitting outside in the beautiful piazza, surrounded by Minori’s stunning architecture and charming atmosphere.

12. Take a Day Trip to Capri

The Island of Capri was another highlight of my trip to Minori. As an idyllic island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, it boasts beautiful beaches, scenic cliffs, and luxurious villas. I suggest taking a ferry from the mainland. You can book a ticket in advance using FerryHopper.

Depending on the departure point, the ferry usually takes 60 to 90 minutes. Ensure you know that not all ferry rides stop in Minori, so check the local ferry company website TravelMar ferries, or FerryHopper in advance to plan your day trip. Alternatively, there are lots of private charter boats and cruises along the coast that will take you to Capri in style!

Once on the island, there is plenty to see and do, like visiting the iconic Blue Grotto, exploring the beautiful Gardens of Augustus, and shopping in the picturesque town of Anacapri. As well as being home to tons of designer boutiques, Capri has some truly delectable cuisine to sample.
