Spin Cycle: The Shed, Chapter 4
[This is the final chapter of my short story, 'The Shed', that I wrote for the Scary Sprite's Keeper (it's Halloween, she not usually scary, I think) and her Spin Cycle. You can read Chapter 1, Chapter 2, and Chapter 3, and also watch the movie trailer for the fictional movie, 'The Shed'. Happy Halloween!]

SHE’S WALKING!
IB, who turned one exactly one month ago, is walking. You know that game where you and your soul mate sit down on the floor with your feet touching so that your legs make a protective ‘bumper zone’ and then try to get the toddler to toddle between you? We’ve been playing it every day [...]

Save the arts in schools!
My son Socko is involved in his high school’s music program. He’s a vocalist, and last night he had a concert where he performed in the concert and jazz choirs. The concert was great - it featured the high school’s ‘feeder’ middle schools too, and the place was packed to the rafters. There were a [...]

The Shed - Trailer
[UPDATE: Captain Dumbass informed me that the links below were broken. Sorry - they've been fixed now. I'm glad I'm not technical for a living. That would be embarrassing. ]
[My short story 'The Shed' (Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 so far) is being made into a fictional movie! Here's the trailer for the movie, which my [...]

Oh no I didn’t!
Oh yes, I did.
I have received… wait for it…
MY FIRST AWARD.
My first kudos. My first atta boy. My first blog bling. Yowza! I am more than a little excited.
I’m also more than a little thankful - thank you to Jen over at Blissfully Caffeinated for my award. I don’t have any coffee on my blog, [...]

Spin Cycle: Trick
The Glorious Sprite’s Keeper’s Spin Cycle theme this week is trick or treat.
The woman screamed. It was a blood-curdling, high-pitched, finger-nails-on-a-chalkboard shriek. As my hand involuntarily jumped off her breast, two thoughts slammed through my brain: she was NOT a prop of a woman impaled on a wrought-iron gate in a white dress - she [...]

Pulling the plug
Today I read a post from slicksumbich in which he basically says goodbye. Adios. Auf Wiedersehen. And even if he isn’t really leaving, it struck a note. He wrote that he blogs for him, for fun. If blogging feels like work, he’s done. Out. Gone.
It got me thinking.
Why do I blog? Is it for fun? [...]

I was officially tagged for a meme by Smart Mouth Broad, who I affectionately refer to as SMB. I realized some time ago (yesterday), that I never actually got her permission to refer to her this way, it just sort of started happening in comments, and I went with it. Sorry, SMB. If my acronymization [...]

The Shed, Chapter 2
[This is the second chapter of my short story, The Shed. You can find the first chapter here. The Shed is my attempt at a scary Halloween story, in celebration of October, and things that go bump in the night.]
The fog was thick. It was characteristic of the Autumn mist that rolled in off the [...]

Spin Cycle: Nothing To Fear
The Sublime Sprite’s Keeper asked me to join the Spin Cycle, so I’m giving it a shot. I am a rabid an avid fan of the Spin Cycle, so I jumped at the chance to be included. Go for a spin, as it were. Rinse my laundry, if you get my meaning. Take a topic [...]

Boo!
When I was six years old, my Dad created a Halloween costume for me and my four-year-old brother. It was a dragon, constructed entirely out of cardboard and paper packing tape. I stood in the head section and peered through the ornate cardboard mouth, while my brother manned the tail, which was long enough to [...]

Adopted
In anticipation of Jens’ series of posts over at the Steenky Bee, I’m disclosing that I was adopted. Jen wrote a post about the fact that she adopted her daughter and son, and she said that she will be writing some posts about raising them. I am… excited! I have more than a few questions [...]

Pad Thai, Walmart-style
My new friend Jan over at Jan’s Sushi Bar had a post a few days ago with a recipe for Pad Thai. I love Pad Thai. I’ve been known to eat lunch in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle, where, I kid you not, there are seven Thai restaurants. One of the them serves incredible Pad [...]

Stay on target
Thanks for your comments on my post yesterday. Your insight was incredibly valuable to me. For example, a couple of you mentioned blogging vs. journaling. I was like, ‘Huh? Journaling? What the heck is journaling??’ I was going to write each of you a personal note yesterday in my comments, but then I thought, hey, [...]

Like a splinter in my mind
Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself.

I’m a little frustrated. I’m a new blogger, and I’m liking it a LOT. I’ve made some new friends, laughed so hard at some blog posts (and comments) that I’ve snorted various beverages all over my monitor (coffee and [...]

The internet just threw up a little bit in my router
I’m fascinated by how much garbage content is recycled by robots on the internet. Anyone can subscribe to a RSS news/blog/whatever feed and re-publish the content. What’s worse, robots are doing it for people, all the time.

The Shed, Chapter 1
[What follows is the first chapter of my short story, The Shed. It's meant to be a Halloween story, celebrating the month of October, and all the creepy, fun little evils that dwell within my shed. And by shed, I mean mind. Enjoy! And as this is my first-ever attempt at a work of fiction [...]

I kissed a girl, and I liked it
Do you ever have those moments when you find out how much your kids are paying attention to what you say, or what you listen to on the radio? Here’s my first confession of the day: I listen to Pop sometimes. Not all the time, but often enough. I grew up in the ’80s, listening [...]

Happy Birthday, Socko! I can’t believe it’s your number seventeen today.
I’m so proud of you.
I wanted to put together a tribute to you that captures how amazing I think you are: your incredible talent, your basic goodness to those around you (and animals, like saving kittens from dumpsters), but instead, I decided to let you [...]

The Bank of Floyd
I was just reading Midlife Slices‘ post yesterday, and I remembered NPR’s story from a couple of days ago about the Bank of Floyd. Two things:
First, I totally agree with everything Midlife Slices has to say about the MEDIA running us scared about the economy. Sure, things are tough for a lot of people, and [...]

Dear dooce®, part 1
Hi Heather!
How are you? I hope you are doing very well ( although by your recent post, you haven’t been sleeping much - I hope Leta lets you sleep tonight). I’m doing well, too.
In fact, I’m doing GREAT! I was so happy and proud to have ‘won’ your ‘name your friend’s dog‘ contest, with my [...]
